Leo (Xin Liu)
Leo (Xin Liu) is a visual artist based in Prince Edward Island, Canada, working across painting, cyanotype, ink, printmaking, pixel art, and mixed-media installation. Trained in Oil Painting at the Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts in China, he relocated to Canada in 2022, where his practice expanded into a multi-layered investigation of migration, extreme climate, cultural identity, and embodied narratives.
Leo received the 2025 Luxembourg Art Prize – Certificate of Artistic Achievement, and his works have been exhibited in both local and international contexts, including projects such as “POTS,” “Jie Qi’s Dragon,” “Blue Hockey,” “Oil & Black Hockey,” “Walkflowers,” and several public art and community-driven collaborations. His recent works weave together seasonal systems, political language, family memory, and the physicality of ice hockey, forming a distinctive conceptual structure that merges philosophy, body theatre, and ecological reflection.
His artistic and educational initiatives have been featured in media reports, cultural institutions, foundations, and community events across Atlantic Canada. Leo is also the creator of the ARTS pedagogy (Awareness–Reflection–Transformation–Solution), which he continues to develop through workshops, schools, and long-term partnerships with regional organizations.
